Computer translation?

We are often asked by our customers whether foreign language versions are translated by a computer. Our reply is quite clear: NO
Machine translation remains a touchy subject. The general assumption is that it will cost as little as possible and will only take a few mouse clicks to complete.
Disillusion is what swiftly follows the first promising attempts at translation via free providers on Internet websites.
A simple quotation like: "Verbunden werden auch die Schwachen mächti" becomes a nightmarish: "Be connected also that weakened powerfullyâ, and woe betide any translator who cares to let such a thing slip into his work.
Many translators do employ so-called translation tools though, such as TRADOS or Déjà Vu etc. Here a computer's capacity to store and search is simply used as an aid - the flesh and blood translator embodying the actual intellectual ability - and this is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.
